Amazon converts at 18%. The average ecommerce store sits at 3-4%. The difference is not better products or lower prices. It is the discovery engine underneath: the AI that understands what a shopper wants and surfaces the right product at the right moment.

Tom Hamer and Jesse Clark both spent years at Amazon, working independently on the systems behind one of the world's most sophisticated product discovery engines. They saw the gap between what was possible and what every other retailer had access to.

In 2022, they founded Marqo to close that gap. Not by bolting AI onto legacy search, but by building a complete commerce intelligence platform from scratch. Search, recommendations, merchandising, and conversational discovery, all powered by a single AI engine purpose-built for product understanding.

Today, the retailers we work with process hundreds of millions of queries and see measurable revenue lifts across every touchpoint. We are closing the gap between the tech giants and everyone else.

Jesse Clark

Co-founder & CTO

Prior to Marqo, Jesse led a team at Amazon Robotics AI developing intelligence for Amazon's most advanced item manipulation robot (Robin, 1B+ packages). Former Principal Scientist at Stitch Fix. PhD physicist and former Stanford research fellow with publications in Science, Nature Physics, and Nature Materials.

Tom Hamer

Co-founder & CEO

Tom co-founded Marqo while a graduate student at the University of Cambridge. Before that, he was a software engineer at AWS, building customer-facing features for Amazon RDS. At 14, he created a globally successful iPhone app that taught users how to build their own apps. MPhil, University of Cambridge.
